embodied right relationship + contact improvisation

next workshop:

Saturday March 30th
2:30 - 5:30pm
Pieter Performance Space
Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles

What happens in your body when you reach toward connection?

What are your modes and patterns of relating, and how can you discover more about them through the movement story of your body?

Employing Contact Improv fundamentals, we learn more about how we move towards and away from connection, and how to cultivate a deeper sense of safety, play and autonomy through all of our relating.

Through movement, somatic and partnering exercises, we find ways to address & repair old body-based attachment patterns and approach dancing and relating with more clarity and ease.

This is for you if:

✦ You struggle to know and express your needs and boundaries

✦ Interactions sometimes leave you feeling invaded or invasive, missing that sweet spot of juicy, enlivening connection

✦ You shy away from contact improv spaces for fear of consent violations without proper repair

✦ You have trouble discerning how you feel, or who or what is good for you

✦ You’ve mistakenly crossed someone else’s boundaries, and want to learn how to do better next time

✦ You long to feel safe and fully expressed on or off the dance floor

In this workshop you’ll learn:

✦ Contact fundamentals and tips and tricks for how to improve your CI technique

✦ The wisdom of your own body, so you can better discern what people, situations, and environments are right for you on an ongoing basis

✦ A deepened understanding of your attachment style and related behavior patterns

✦ How to identify and clearly express needs, boundaries, desires - on and off the dance floor

✦ How to ask for consent with clarity, and how to receive yeses and nos with grace

✦ Non-verbal empathy and attunement for more easeful communication and relating

✦ How to engage in consent-based and fulfilling dances and relationship.

This is an all levels CI workshop.

No prior movement experience required. For intermediate and advanced CI practitioners, there will be opportunities to engage the principals being taught at a higher level of technique with other advanced dancers present.
